A monument to the soldier as personalization of Freedom and Independence was erected to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the return of Pomerania from Germany to the Polish Republic. It was installed on the pedestal of the monument to Emperor Wilhelm I, who was overthrown after the transfer of the city to Poland in January 1920.
