Developments in Omsk, which resulted in the liquidation of the Provisional All-Russian Government (Ufa Directorate) and the transfer of sole supreme power in the Russian State to Admiral Aleksander Kolchak (also known as Omsk coup or Kolchak coup).
Since October 1918, the Provisional All-Russian Government headed by the Socialist Revolutionary (SR) Nikolay Avksentiev was headquartered in Omsk. On November 4, 1918, together with the Provisional Siberian Government, it formed a new executive body, the All-Russian Council of Ministers (Chairman Pyotr Vologodsky). Vice-Admiral Aleksander Kolchak, invited to take the post of Minister of War and Navy in the Council, took office on November 7.
On the night of November 18, a group of officers in Omsk carried out a coup. The leaders of the Ufa directorate (the SRs Nikolay Avksentyev, Vladimir Zenzinov, Andrey Argunov, Evgeny Rogovsky) were arrested. On the morning of November 18, an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers with the participation of members of the Directorate Pyotr Vologodsky and Vladimir Vinogradov transferred the supreme power temporarily to the Supreme Ruler of Russia (the Russian State). Aleksander Kolchak was recognized as a result of a secret ballot. At the same time, he was promoted to full admiral and accepted the post of Supreme Commander of all land and sea forces. Subsequently, Kolchak's authorities were recognized by the leaders of the main anti-Bolshevik formations in the south, northwest, and north of Russia.
