About Project

The State Museum of Political History of Russia (SMPHR) presents a historical and educational online project Interactive Map of the Russian Civil War (1917–1922), http://civilwar.polithistory.ru

The project aims to demonstrate how the Civil War split the country into a large number of warring parties. The Maps section contains a list of state entities that existed in the territory of the former Russian Empire in 1917–1922 and fought against each other. Besides, the section provides systematized information on the major rebellions and intervention. The Timeline includes information on the main political and military developments during the six years of confrontation (1917–1922). The Personalities and Parties, organizations, movements sections tell about the main actors of the conflict. The colours used in the Interactive Map of the Russian Civil War (1917–1922) refer to certain groups of actors: the Reds (red colour), the Whites (white), Revolutionary Democracy (purple), National states and movements (yellow), Insurgency (green), Intervention (blue).

The dates before February 1(14), 1918 are given in the Old Style (Julian), except the cases where both dates in Old and New (Gregorian) styles are provided.
